Our Story

North of Mangrove Mountain in the hinterland of the Central Coast of NSW lays the picturesque town of Kulnura; the location of Paradise Botanical Gardens.

‘Kulnura’ is an Aboriginal word meaning “up in the clouds”, and the area was given this name by virtue of its high altitude of 300m above sea level. Here, the air is pure, the land is pristine, and the climate is perfect…it is paradise on earth.

Established over 50 years ago, Paradise Botanical Gardens encompasses 20 acres of native bushland along with cultivated gardens renowned for their spectacular flowering plant species, most notably Camellia, Rose and Lavender.
Being a botanical garden, we are dedicated to the cultivation, collection, extraction and display of a wide range of plants species.

We have implemented our own research and development program to explore cosmetic and therapeutic applications of the exotic and native Australian botanicals which grow on our property.
Simultaneously, we are currently investigating innovative methods of extracting botanical extracts to maximise their purity and potency.

The gardens are home to majestic trees as well as many rare & unusual plants specimens sourced from all around the globe .
There are also interesting landscape features to explore including the colony of monkeys, exquisite stone walls, meandering pathways and plenty of picnic areas.

From time to time, we open our gardens to the public and notices of upcoming open days and events will be advertised on our website and social media accounts @paradisebotanicalgardens

The gardens are also available for private functions such as weddings.
Please contact us if you are interested in holding a private function in our magnificent gardens.

Our Heritage

The ‘Paradise’ brand was created by Mr Bob Cherry in the early 1970’s. Bob developed one of the largest nurseries in Australia and it traded as ‘Paradise Plants’ for more than 40 years. The nursery business was acquired by David Hanna in 2012, and continues to grow & sell the ‘Paradise’ range of plants under the name ‘Paradise Nurseries

The name ‘Paradise Plants’ is now the name used to group and promote all ‘Paradise’ branded plant varieties, supplying information to gardeners, garden designers, growers and the media.

Bob also established the company ‘Paradise Seed’ a seed production & plant breeding company. This company is run by Bob Cherry & John Robb and continues to develop beautiful new plants which are grown all around the world.

Lastly, but not least of all, Bob also created ‘Paradise Gardens’ – a world class garden located in Kulnura on the scenic Central Coast of New South Wales. Bob travels extensively and the garden is home to many rare, unusual & beautiful plants collected from all around the world. Tours of the Garden are by appointment only.
